What is a White Paper?

You may have heard the term ‘White Paper’ – sometimes written as ‘whitepaper’ – and wondered what exactly it is. A white paper is a document written using a persuasive style of language to describe and analyse problems and offer potential solutions. The definition of a white paper is very broad and varies from industry to industry, which can be rather confusing. A governmental white paper, for example, is a detailed report on a specific topic, while a business white paper has a lot in common with a marketing presentation, although it has much more technical detail.
