And so the new year begins with a confirmation that shows how important good, fresh Content is. The first evaluations after Google’s update to their core algorithm last week are in. Marcus Tober, founder and CEO of Searchmetrics, reported the winners and losers of the update in the Searchmetrics Blog.
The initial analysis shows that particularly older content from media companies lost in visibility in the rankings. Traditional print publishers seem to be affected especially hard. On the other hand, the big winner is current, and holistic multimedia based Content that meets the users’ needs. Marcus Tober gives the example of gq.com, one of the biggest winners. On thier site, the article on American Football player Tom Brady rose particularly sharply.
In addition to current and comprehensive Content, brand sites like villeroy-boch.com or yamaha-motor.eu are also among the winners. Somewhat surprisingly for SEO experts, Educational Game sites also rose in the rankings. SearchMetrics attributes this to positive user signals such as a high retention and a low bounce rate.
SEO experts expect a new Penguin update in the next few days. The SERPs are looking to continue to be jumbled up in the coming weeks. New analyses will follow.
